A look at the top stories this week on eprivateclient….

Monday: Charmaine Hast, head of family law at Wedlake Bell, spoke at eprivateclient’s fourth leadership seminar on 15 February 2017. Speaking at the seminar, which was sponsored by Ruffer LLP and held at the London offices of Deloitte, Ms Hast explained to attendees the importance of trust within a leadership role. Also speaking at the event were Deloitte private client partner Paula Higgleton and Ruffer chairman, Jonathan Ruffer, who talked about the importance of forward planning and being true to yourself as leaders respectively

Deloitte makes a number of changes across the senior leadership team in the Channel Islands, including the appointment of John Clacy to the role of partner in charge of offshore

Tuesday: Offshore law firm Ogier appoints four senior lawyers to the new role of counsel, a title which the firm said had been introduced to recognise technical expertise and leadership skills. The first lawyers to be promoted to the role in Jersey are Michael Little, who leads the Channel Islands employment law team; private client lawyer Katherine Neal; and Jersey and BVI qualified commercial and trust litigation specialist Nicola Roberts. Furthermore, insolvency specialist Alex Horsbrugh-Porter has been recruited to a counsel position in the Guernsey dispute resolution team

Wednesday: Charles Russell Speechlys appoints David Cooney as an international private client partner to its Zurich office. Prior to joining Charles Russell Speechlys, Mr Cooney was a partner in Ogier’s Cayman Islands office, where he headed the private client and trusts team (Caribbean region)

Law firm McGuireWoods launches a multidisciplinary team of US lawyers specialising in serving high-net-worth, non-US clients and their financial advisers. The firm's global private client practice advises families, family offices and trust companies on tax, business and other legal issues as they interact with the United States

Thursday: Boutique London private client law firm, New Quadrant Partners, hires Marilyn McKeever as partner with immediate effect from Berwin Leighton Paisner. Ms McKeever - who combines her practice with sitting as a judge of the First Tier Tax Tribunal - specialises in international and UK tax and estate planning including personal and trust taxation and all aspects of offshore and onshore trusts and wills

UK law firm Edwin Coe appoints HMRC’s operational head of fraud investigation services (FIS) London, Dmitri Surendran, to its tax team as a tax director
